Vaqueros host Fernley Invitational track meet Friday

Field events begin at 2 p.m. and running events at 3 p.m. Friday as the Fernley High School track team hosts the Fernley Invitational track meet.

A total of 14 teams are entered, including all five Lyon County schools, plus Northern 3A teams Elko and Lowry and Northern 4A teams North Valleys and Reed.

The girls team finished seventh out of 22 teams scoring points at the Reed Rotary Invitational March 30-31, while the boys team finished ninth out of 24 teams scoring points.

The top performers for the Vaqueros at Reed were Riana Allred and Brittney Gaitan for the girls, and Aaron Proctor for the boys.

Gaitan placed second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 3 inches and fourth in the discus with a personal record throw of 103-9.

Allred ran third in the girls 100 hurdles with a time of 16.78 and came in fourth in the 40-yard dash in 5.73.

The Girls 4x800 relay team of Samantha Manning, Olivia Schrock, Janae Derley and Piper Crook finished fifth in 10:24.6, while Crook was fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.90.

For the boys, Proctor won the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.95 and the 200 meters in 23.43 and was fifth in the 100 meters in 11.43.

Nicholas Bernardo placed third in the 110 hurdles in 16.07.

Crook also finished sixth in the 800 meters at the Thunder Invitational in Rocklin, Calif. on April 7 with a time of 2:24.97.

The Vaqueros are also scheduled to compete Saturday at the Northwest Invite at McQueen, where 21 teams are scheduled to compete.
