Boys basketball: Vaqueros lose to Boulder City at tournament

The Fernley High School boys basketball team lost its opening game in the Lake Mead Invitational to Boulder City Thursday afternoon, 57-47.

Boulder City jumped on the Vaqueros early to take a 22-14 lead after the first quarter, and led 31-24 at the half. The Eagles stretched the lead to 15 points in the third before Fernley rallied to within four in the fourth quarter.

“Just couldn’t finish the comeback,” coach Derek Miller said. “Need to execute better.”

Drew Miller led Fernley with 13 points and Rei Robinett added 10.

The Vaqueros will play Moapa Valley Friday at noon.

Fernley scoring: Drew Miller 13, Rei Robinett 10, Zac Terra 3, Zach Burns 9, Russel Ortiz 6, Dario Ceresola 2, Ricky Dumont 4.
