Back to School - Fernley Elementary School

Back to School - Fernley Elementary School
From Principal Chanen Cross

Happy Summer! I hope this finds you relaxing and enjoying summer break.

We have a new website at FES: fes.lyoncsd.org

Please visit our new website for all the latest information about Fernley Elementary.

This year I will have been at FES for four years, and this is my third year as the principal. I love my job and all our students. We have a wonderful staff at FES to support your child. We have a heavy focus on math, reading, and writing in our curriculum. We also have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Program that every student gets for 40 minutes per week. In addition, our students have weekly counseling sessions, PE classes, and computer classes. Many of our classrooms have one to one devices. We use FOSS kits for Science, Reader’s and Writer’s Workshops for Reading and Writing, and EngageNY Math as our main curriculum materials. We follow the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

We have many fun and exciting events at FES like Monthly Movie Nights, Egg Drop, Field Day, Awards Assemblies, monthly Wolf Café where parents are invited to eat lunch with us, we participate in the STEM Festival, Christmas Concerts, and many more.

We work hard to ensure that every student as FES is growing academically with quarterly Achievement Conferences. At these conferences, I meet with every teacher and we project student data onto a screen in my office, discussing each and every student and how we can better intervene in their growth and achievement. You are always welcome to come discuss your child’s progress and data with me—I collect it all and have it at my fingertips.

Here’s to a great 2016-17 School Year! We are so excited to kick it off!
