Vaquero runners, throwers faring well as regional meet approaches

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

With two meets left to tune up for the 3A North Region championships, both the the boys and girls Fernley High School track teams have been doing extremely well this spring.

Coach Todd Wright said both teams have great talent and depth. Aurora Parsons, Cameron Radli, and Tyler Slaughter lead an extremely strong shot put and discus team. All three have routinely finish in first or second place so far this season. Parsons has set new FHS records in both the shot (38’2.5) and disc (122’4).

Girls pole vault has been a very strong event, also, with Kiriann Johnson and Heaven Conner leading the way. Johnson has set a new school record with a vault of 10 feet. Another bright spot has been Connie Hunter and Myla Bott routinely finishing in the top 5 in both the 400 and 800.

The Vaqueros will compete in the Big George Invitational this Saturday in Gardnerville and the Carson Invitational next Saturday to fine tune their preparation for the regional meet.

“We are hopeful that both the boys and girls will show well at the Northern Regional track meet in two weeks,” Wright said.
