A Silverland Middle School student was arrested Monday morning after a handgun was found in the student’s pants, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were dispatched to the school at approximately 10 a.m. after school administration received an anonymous report that a student had a firearm. The student was removed from class and sent to the office to wait for deputies. During a pat down of the student, deputies found a .45 caliber handgun in the student’s pants. The handgun had ammunition in the magazine, but the chamber was empty. The student refused to provide a statement and was arrested.
LCSO says it determined this was an isolated incident and there was not further threat to the school.
If you or your children have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 775-463-6600 and request to speak to Deputy Whitten.
