Five people were killed when a Care Flight medical transport plane crashed near Stagecoach Friday night.
Care Flight confirmed that a PC-12 fixed-wing plane with tail number N273SM headed from Reno to Utah crashed near Iron Mountain Blvd. and Seneca Road. The five people on board, a pilot, flight nurse, flight paramedic, a patient and a patient’s family member, were all found dead.
Lyon County dispatch received reports of a possible aircraft crash in Stagecoach at approximately 9:15 p.m. Friday. Lyon County sheriff’s deputies, Central Lyon County Fire, Lyon County Search and Rescue and Douglas County Search and Rescue all responded to search the area and found the plane at about 11:15 p.m.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. In a press conference in Carson City Sunday, investigators said the plane broke apart before it hit the ground.
