Wrong-way driver killed in I-80 crash early Sunday

A person driving the wrong way on westbound Interstate 80 near Fernley was killed in a crash early Sunday morning.
According to the Nevada State Police, a sedan driving the wrong way on I-80 near Derby Dam was reported at about 1:42 a.m. At 2:04 a.m., NSP received a report of a collision between a sedan and a tractor-trailer traveling westbound near mile marker 45.
The driver of the car was killed, but the two people in the tractor-trailer were not injured. Both vehicles caught fire. Frozen foods in the trailer thawed and had to be cleaned up, and leaked fluids from both vehicles was also cleaned up.
Interstate 80 westbound was closed due to the crash and westbound traffic was diverted through Wadsworth. The highway was reopened before 12:30 p.m.
The name of the person killed in the crash hasn’t yet been released.
