Fernley wrestlers win Redwood Rumble, McCullar wins individual title

Led by six individual medalists and an individual championship by Riley McCullar, the Fernley High School boys wrestling finished second at the Redwood Rumble in Larkspur, Calif. Last weekend.

For the girls, Shaheerah Muhammad and Faith Paulman were individual champions at a tournament at Hug High school.

Individual winners for the boys at the Redwood Rumble were Johnny Sanchez 6th, Caleb Finley 4th, Archie Mendez 3rd, Harley Denison 2nd and Nathan Pritchard 2nd. McCullar took first place at 165 pounds with a technical fall over Alexander Berkowitz of Larkspur in the championship match.

At the Hug Turkey Tussle, individual medal winners for the girls team were Tina Garcia 4th place, Sophie Workman 3rd, Nadera Muhammad 2nd and Peyton Benson 2nd, along with individual champions Shaheerah Muhammad and Faith Paulman.

The JV boys also competed at the Hug Turkey Tussle, and had six individual medal winners, Brayden Cruz 2nd, Jayden Esparza 3rd, Alex Davis 4th, Roverto Robles 4th, Baylor Gillespie 4th and Demery Alldredge 4th.

“Overall, I was very happy with all three squads,” coach Jake McCullar said. “All wrestlers need to continue to build and sharpen their skill sets. Back to the grind.”
