Fernley wrestlers win Redwood Rumble, McCullar wins individual title

Led by six individual medalists and an individual championship by Riley McCullar, the Fernley High School boys wrestling finished second at the Redwood Rumble in Larkspur, Calif. Last weekend.

For the girls, Shaheerah Muhammad and Faith Paulman were individual champions at a tournament at Hug High school.

Individual winners for the boys at the Redwood Rumble were Johnny Sanchez 6^th, Caleb Finley 4^th, Archie Mendez 3^rd, Harley Denison 2^nd and Nathan Pritchard 2^nd. McCullar took first place at 165 pounds with a technical fall over Alexander Berkowitz of Larkspur in the championship match.

At the Hug Turkey Tussle, individual medal winners for the girls team were Tina Garcia 4^th place, Sophie Workman 3^rd, Nadera Muhammad 2^nd and Peyton Benson 2^nd, along with individual champions Shaheerah Muhammad and Faith Paulman.

The JV boys also competed at the Hug Turkey Tussle, and had six individual medal winners, Brayden Cruz 2^nd, Jayden Esparza 3^rd, Alex Davis 4^th, Roverto Robles 4^th, Baylor Gillespie 4^th and Demery Alldredge 4^th.

“Overall, I was very happy with all three squads,” coach Jake McCullar said. “All wrestlers need to continue to build and sharpen their skill sets. Back to the grind.”
