City, County agree on MOU for use of court facilities

The Lyon County Commission and the Fernley City Council have each ratified a memorandum of understanding for Lyon County to use the City of Fernley’s facilities while the Justice Court building is being remodeled.

The agreement allows the county to use the City of Fernley’s facilities for the Canal Township Justice Court and the Third Judicial District Juvenile Master Court.

Lyon County will pay the city $250 per month for additional utilities, or the actual cost, whichever is more.

The county put out a notice in September requesting bids from the project.

The Commission had originally allocated $6 million for the Fernley Justice Court project, but after the finding the project was estimated to cost about $1 million more than initially projected, last December reallocated more than $1 million in unspent American Rescue Plan Act funds, including $250,000 that had been designated for another project, to complete the expansion and remodel of Fernley Justice Court.
