Fireworks malfunction ignites brush fires

A malfunction shortly after the Fernley Fourth of July fireworks show began Saturday night caused an explosion on the ground and ignited several small brush fires.

Initial reports from North Lyon Fire personnel indicated that a mortar exploded before launching, causing multiple fireworks to detonate on the ground.

North Lyon Fire Battalion Chief J.T. McCoy said the cause of the malfunction was unknown.

“Three small brush fires ignited when the malfunction occurred and were quickly brought under control and extinguished,” McCoy said.

He said no North Lyon Fire personnel or fireworks staff members were injured.

Because fireworks are unsafe to dismantle once they have been loaded, the show resumed after a delay of about 45 minutes, once the brush fires had been extinguished

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
