Fernley’s 25th anniversary celebration received a little extra sparkle July 2 as contestants took the stage for the Miss Fernley Silver 25th Anniversary Pageant.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Fernley, the event brought together young contestants, families, volunteers and local businesses for an evening focused not only on crowns and sashes, but on confidence, community service and friendship.
The program celebrated Fernley’s first 25 years as an incorporated city while looking toward the young people who will help shape its future.
Contestants participated in talent presentations, onstage interviews and runway walks before a panel of community judges. The interview portion gave the young women an opportunity to speak about their character, goals, role models and ideas for making Fernley a better place.
Questions encouraged contestants to talk about kindness and inclusion, community service and the people who have influenced their lives. Younger contestants were asked about their favorite things about Fernley and ways they have helped others without being asked.
Organizers reminded the contestants that the pageant was about more than appearance.
“This is where we get to learn who they are beyond the stage,” the audience was told as the interview portion began.
The judges considered confidence, communication skills, personality and the thoughtfulness of each contestant’s answers.
A slideshow presented during the program highlighted the friendships formed throughout the pageant experience. Organizers described the photographs as more than snapshots, but memories of contestants encouraging one another, laughing together and building a sense of sisterhood.
The pageant was made possible through the work of volunteers, sponsors and community businesses, including All In Graphix, Kelley Kibble, Silver Spur, Bliss Salon, Kim Barney, Kara Barney, Brain Injury Nevada, the Because I Can Foundation, Blood, Sweat and Shears and Cristin Hurd.
The Rotary Club of Fernley organized the event as part of its mission to bring people together through community service and leadership. The club’s motto, “Service Above Self,” was reflected throughout the evening as organizers thanked the many people who donated their time, resources and talents.
The program concluded with the presentation of contestants and the crowning of the 25th anniversary Miss Fernley titleholders.
The evening offered a fitting tribute to Fernley’s anniversary, honoring the community’s past while encouraging a new generation of young leaders to step forward with confidence, kindness and a commitment to service.
