Fernley residents rolled up their sleeves Saturday for the Mayor’s Clean Sweep, a community cleanup effort focused on keeping local parks and public spaces clean, safe and welcoming.
The event brought together approximately 41 adults and more than 20 children.
Mayor Neal McIntyre said the turnout demonstrated the strength of Fernley’s community spirit.
“It was especially inspiring to see so many young people taking pride in their city and helping make a visible difference,” McIntyre said.
In a social media post, the City of Fernley extended its thanks to everyone who volunteered, donated and supported the event.
Special recognition was given to Girl Scouts Troop 553, Fernley High School students and the Z Warriors Soccer Organization for contributing their time and energy.
The city also thanked the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for providing a work crew at the cemetery, Olcese Waste for donating a dumpster, the Lions Club for providing coffee, doughnuts and registration assistance, and Silverado Casino and Pioneer Crossing Casino for providing lunch for volunteers.
City staff members were also recognized for dedicating weekend time to support the event and other community activities throughout the year.
City officials said events such as the Mayor’s Clean Sweep are made possible through the generosity and dedication of Fernley residents, organizations, businesses and volunteers.
Together, participants helped improve the community and demonstrated what can be accomplished when residents work toward a common goal.
