Fernley’s Kashlin Hill won the Nevada State High School Rodeo Queen title for the third consecutive year and also finished in the top four in two events at the Nevada State High School and Junior High Finals Rodeo in Winnemucca to qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo.
Hill and five other members of the Fernley High School Rodeo team also qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in Winnemucca.
In the junior high competition, two members of the Fernley team also qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo.
In addition to winning the Queen competition, Hill placed third in girls cutting with 295.25 points and fourth in reined cow horse with 177 points, earning qualification for the National High School Finals Rodeo, scheduled for July 19-25 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Competitors who finished fifth through 25th in their events qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo.
Hill qualified in five additional events, finishing 11th in barrel racing, 18th in breakaway roping, 10th in goat tying, 13th in pole bending and 20th in team roping.
Carmen Luque qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in four events, finishing eighth in reined cow horse, 12th in pole bending, 17th in goat tying and 20th in barrel racing.
Ellie Machado and Jordyn Process each qualified in two events.
Machado finished fifth in barrel racing and 14th in goat tying.
Process placed seventh in both cutting and pole bending.
Clayton Shipley qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo with a fifth-place finish in saddle bronc riding, while Dylan Viehland qualified by placing 22nd in team roping.
In the junior high division, Hailey Shipley finished 22nd in pole bending and Gabriel Kear tied for seventh in .22 rifle shooting.
The Silver State International Rodeo will be held June 29 through July 5 in Winnemucca.
