North Lyon Fire assisted Washoe County agencies in rescuing three people from a heavily damaged vehicle following a crash on Interstate 80 on Feb. 26.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., North Lyon Fire was alerted by Washoe County for mutual aid in response to a motor vehicle accident near the Wadsworth exit on Interstate 80.

North Lyon Fire, alongside Washoe County and Pyramid Lake Fire, arrived to find a vehicle that sustained significant damage, with two young adults and a toddler requiring extrication.

In alignment with the national standard of extrication time set by the National Fire Protection Association, which recommends extrication within 10 minutes in such emergencies, North Lyon Fire successfully extricated the victims from the vehicle in 18 minutes.

“This response time reflects the challenges faced by our growing community and highlights the ongoing commitment of our fire personnel to deliver efficient and effective emergency services,” North Lyon Fire Battalion Chief Bill Snyder said.

The two young adults and the toddler were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by ground and air ambulances for further medical evaluation and treatment of serious injuries.

“We are grateful for the collaborative efforts of our mutual aid partners and the rapid response,” Snyder said. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of those involved is our highest priority, and we take pride in our ability to provide timely extrication, even as we navigate the demands of our expanding community.”
