James A. Cutler

James A. Cutler

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James (Jim) A. Cutler of Fernley, NV on November 9, 2025, after a hard-fought battle against cancer. Born on April 9th, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to Eben Chandler Cutler and Mary Elizabeth Cutler, Jim lived a life defined by perseverance, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Erika Felber Cutler; his son Brad (Julie) Cutler; his daughters, Erin Cutler, Kelsey (Dusty) Ingle and Devon (Mary) Orozco; and his 10 cherished grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers Robert Cutler, Allyn (Jacque) Cutler and William (the late Karen) Cutler in addition to many extended family members, friends and colleagues who have became like family over the years.

A proud farm boy from Ohio, Jim, put himself through college while working at the local grocer, often recalling his days “digging dirt” from behind the plate as catcher for his baseball team. Adversity never slowed him-every challenge was simply another problem to solve. This spirit carried him into a distinguished career building hotels and casinos, where his calm, solution-driven approach earned him deep respect. For Jim, hospitality wasn’t an industry; it was a way of life. If you needed help, he was there-and once the job was done, his answer was always the same: “You’re golden”.

With a shared vision and the unwavering support of his wife, Jim left behind the big-city world of the Avenue of Americas to take a chance on land development and real estate in Fernley, Nevada. Together they built a life rooted in optimism, hard work, and faith in the future.

Jim loved the “summer greens” of the golf course and the “winter whites” of the ski slopes and Northern Nevada proved the perfect home for his adventurous spirit. After one hell of a fight-and some personal calculations-Jim made the only choice that he could. With that signature grin and a few familiar baseball signs, he said: “Had a ball, Gotta haul, that’s all y’all

Till we meet again! He will live on forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of his remarkable life will be held in April 2026, honoring what would have been his 75th birthday.
