A Silver Stage Middle School and a Silver Stage High School student were taken into custody in
separate incidents and charged with threatening to bring a gun to school.
The first incident happened on Oct. 16 at Silver Stage Middle School. At about 1:30 p.m., the
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a report involving a student who allegedly made a
threat to bring a firearm to school. The School Resource Officer assigned to Silver Springs
schools responded to the school and began an investigation. The student was taken into custody
without incident and later turned over to the custody of Lyon County Juvenile Probation.
On October 17 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was informed of a
threat made by a student to bring a firearm to Silver Stage High School for the purpose of using
it against fellow students.
The SRO responded and after investigation the student, who is 18 years old, was taken into
custody and transported to the Lyon County Jail.
LCSO said there are no ongoing threats to students, staff or the community from these incidents.
In a statement, the LCSO stated that threats to bring weapons or commit acts of violence at any
Lyon County school are crimes and will be dealt with swiftly and severely.
“This is the second incident of this nature in as many days, and the Sheriff’s Office will continue
to maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward any threats of school violence,” the statement said.
