Staff Report
The Fernley Community Church, known in the past as the East End School, is a building that a group of women known as the Fernley Ladies Aid Society is committed to preserving. The Ladies Aid, organized in 1927, raised sufficient funds to purchase the vacant building, which originally served the children of Fernley’s first settlers, and move it to a lot they had acquired on South Center Street in the heart of town.
In 2003, the Ladies Aid was instrumental in getting the building listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places because of its significance as a center for promoting the community, spiritual, and social welfare in the early years of Fernley. Since few other buildings were available, it not only served as a church and Sunday school, but opened its door for various functions including community meetings, school activities, weddings, funerals, and charitable events.
The Ladies Aid is still an active group with the mission of preserving, protecting, and maintaining the integrity of this building which currently houses the Living Faith Christian Fellowship. If you are interested in becoming a member of The Ladies Aid and joining in this endeavor, we are currently seeking interested parties.
