Now that the 2024-25 school year has ended, the juggling act is over for new Lyon County
School District Deputy Superintendent Dr. Stacey Griffin-Cooper.
Griffin-Cooper was named deputy superintendent earlier this year, replacing Dawn Huckaby,
who retired effective at the end of the school year. Griffin-Cooper was the assistant
superintendent for the Churchill County School District from 2023 to 2025, and has been
working to get familiar with Lyon County while she was completing the school year in Churchill
County.
A resident of Fernley, Griffin-Cooper brings more than two decades of experience in education
and district leadership. Prior to her most recent role, Griffin-Cooper served for more than a
decade as a district administrator with Washoe County School District, where she led efforts to
close achievement gaps, implement curriculum supports, and strengthen systems across multiple
school sites. Her leadership emphasized data-driven decision-making, school turnaround
strategies, and fostering collaborative partnerships.
Her career began in the classroom, and over the years she has served as a teacher-leader, small
school principal, and executive director of secondary education in Ohio. Notable roles include
serving with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Lima City Schools, and Mansfield City
Schools, where she was recognized for her success in reducing disciplinary incidents and
improving academic performance through systemic improvement strategies.
The first day for LCSD students for the 2025-26 school year is Tuesday, September 2.
