For the second time, the Fernley City Council has had to hold off on adopting the Southwest Area Plan.
At last week’s meeting, the council voted to table the item until it’s June 18 meeting because all of the required notices were not properly sent out. Several residents who were to be notified instead received empty envelopes.
In April, the council had remanded the plan back to the planning commission because of objections by a property owner controlling approximately 20 percent of the land area protested the plan’s adoption because the landowner’s property was being designated as open space, preventing any future development.
The packet for last week’s meeting included a letter from a representative of the developer that the new plan, which was approved 6-1 by the planning commission, aligns with their development vision.
The Southwest Area Plan encompasses approximately 11,800 acres generally located south of the Truckee Canal and west of U.S. 95A.
