Glenna Rae Hofheins (Shaw)

Glenna Rae Hofheins (Shaw)

May 8, 1943 – May 21, 2025

Glenna Rae Hofheins, born on May 8, 1943, in Ruth, NV, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of George and Vera Shaw and grew up in Old Ruth, where her childhood adventures included hunting rabbits along the ‘Big Ditch’ and riding tractor tires down the Kennecott copper mine tailings.

Glenna met her high school sweetheart, Richard Hofheins, on a chilly November morning as she boarded the school bus. Richard was the student bus driver who had swapped routes in hopes of meeting the young redhead from Ruth. A few days later, Richard’s mother, Jean Hofheins, crocheted a special seat cover for the spot next to the driver, which, of course, became Glenna’s seat on every ride thereafter.

Glenna and Richard married in their hometown of Ely, NV soon after graduating White Pine High School in 1961.

After their daughter Wendy was born in 1964, they moved to Reno where Richard worked for Cashman Equipment Company as a heavy equipment mechanic. Richard went on to eventually retire from Cashman with over 36 years of service.

Glenna worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Magnuson Corp. in Reno for over ten years and retired after her daughter Wendy’s untimely death in 1988.

Over the years, Glenna enjoyed a variety of hobbies, ranging from camping along the Pacific Northwest coastline, being a Camp Fire Girl leader in the late '70s, exploring ceramics and various arts and crafts in her spare time. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her two granddaughters, Allison Horner (Cravey) and Reese Hofheins.

Glenna is preceded in death by her mother, Vera; her father, George; her brother, Bill; her sister, Gloria; her husband, Richard; and her daughter, Wendy.

She is survived by her sister, Cheryl; her two granddaughters, Allison Horner (Cravey) and Reese Hofheins; and her son, Richard J. Hofheins.

Glenna’s faith in Christ and His love for her was of great comfort to her towards the end of her journey here.

Surviving family owe her dear friends Bill and Chris Bernard, and Pastors Matt and Regina McCreary a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

May God rest her soul.
