With both Elko and Spring Creek focused on stopping Jacobson and Stephens—the only two Vaqueros to average double figures for the season—Knutson said Nelson has given the team a new dimension.
“We’ve trusted him all year, we’ve been in his ear about how big of a player he is for this team, and I think he’s finally starting to come into form at the perfect time, for sure,” Jacobson said.
After losing three years in a row in the state semifinals—by four, one, and three points—the Vaqueros now head to Las Vegas in hopes of breaking through the next barrier.
“We’ve been a possession away two years in a row. There’s no way we shouldn’t have incredible belief that our time is coming and the ball is going to bounce our way one of these times,” Knutson said.
“We’re not going to back down from anyone,” Jacobson said. “We’re ready for anything, and I think we’ll come ready to play, for sure.”
