Lyon County School District’s graduation rate saw a slight increase for the second straight year.
The District graduated 603 students from its five high schools, at a total rate of 87.77 percent. The graduation rate is determined by the number of students who enter high school and earn regular high school diplomas within four years. Students who transfer out are taken out of the calculation and students who transfer in are calculated. Any student who drops out or does not send the required paperwork to show they have transferred to another school are counted as a non-graduate. Students who earn an adjusted diploma or high school equivalence certificate do not count as graduates.
LCSD had a total of 922 students in the Class of 2024 cohort, counting students who started high school in Lyon County or transferred in. Of those, 235 transferred out of the district, 84 were non-graduates and 603 graduated.
Fernley High School, the largest school in the district with nearly half of the Class of 2024 cohort and eventual graduates, had a graduation rate of 87.04 percent, the lowest in the district. Of 436 total students in the cohort, 282 graduated, 112 transferred out and 42 were non-graduates.
Smith Valley had a 100-percent graduation rate, with 20 graduates. It was the fourth consecutive year Smith Valley has had a 100-percent graduation rate, and the ninth time since 2012.
Yerington High had a graduation rate of 94.68 percent, with 89 graduates. Dayton had 151 graduates at a rate of 92.64 percent and Silver Stage graduated 60 students and had a graduation rate of 89.55 percent.
The District’s graduation rate in 2023 was 86.41 percent
