The widening of Nevada Pacific Parkway north of the railroad tracks is likely to get underway next year, but construction of the overpass may not begin until 2026.

City of Fernley officials met Nov. 14 with representatives from the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Victory Logistics District, which is providing the matching funds for a $25 million grant the city was awarded in 2022 for the project. At the time the grant was awarded, estimates were the project to connect the road from Interstate 80 to U.S. 50A, with an overpass over the railroad, was $52.4 million.

Officials from the agencies at the Nov. 14 meting walked the entire stretch of the parkway and met to discuss every aspect of the project.

“We are working hard to get this project moving as fast as possible,” said city council member Ryan Hanan.

One of the biggest recent developments is that NDOT has agreed to accept the roadway and the overpass when it’s fully completed.

“Which is great news for Fernley and it's taxpayers,” Hanan said.

The roadway will be four lanes a block north of the overpass to Interstate 80 and will have six lanes on the overpass, with room for possible future expansion. Acceleration and deceleration lanes will be added on westbound 50A.

The project will include a walking path on Nevada Pacific Parkway and surrounding areas, widening of Nevada Pacific Parkway and narrowing of the median, and signal controlled intersections will be added in various intersections on Nevada Pacific between the overpass and I-80.

Hanan said expansion of the roadway north of the overpass will likely start within 12 months or less, but construction of the overpass is likely to begin in 2026 because of the lengthy process of meeting requirements to build an overpass over a railroad.

Discussions are also ongoing about the addition of a new fire station in the industrial area.

“There’s so much on the horizon,” Hanan said. “This is something we will all be proud of when it's completed. We've come a long way, and we are almost there.”
