The Fernley Community Foundation took another step forward in the effort to develop and build the Fernley Depot Community Campus and honored its top donors at the FernStock dinner and concert Saturday night at the Fernley Senior Center.
Fernley Community Foundation Chairman Cody Wagner said the dinner and concert raised more than $15,000 and also completely covered the costs of the free public concert.
The Fernley depot Community campus is the site for the proposed Fernley Community Response and Resource Center, and Wagner said he is hopeful construction begins in the second quarter of 2024. Wagner displayed conceptual designs of the center to the sold-out dinner crowd of 200, while he estimated concert attendance to be between 500 and 1,000.
“I would like to thank all of our directors, volunteers, attendees, donors, vendors, and bands for the event who made it all possible,” Wagner said. “We also want to recognize the City of Fernley and Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows for all of their efforts and investments in the future of that area around the old Depot building.
FernStock began with the inaugural event in 2019 and has grown every year, to the point that Wagner said it has grown as large as the Senior Center can handle.
“We are hopeful that construction on the Fernley Community Response & Resource Center begins in the next year to eventually give us a new venue for the future as we continue to expand our efforts.
The donors and Community Foundation members honored at Saturday’s event were:
- Colleen Unterbrink: Five Year Service Award
- Dana Uhlhorn: Five Year Service Award
- Oscar Aguilar: Individual Donor of the Year
- Tom & Jackie Kingston: Individual Donors of the Year
- Shining “K” Meats: Business Donor of the Year
- Sharon Holley: Lifetime Achievement Award
