The Fernley High School track teams qualified four individuals and a relay team for both the boys and the girls for this weekend’s State Meet in Henderson, and each team was led by one individual regional champion.

The boys team finished fifth at the regional meet held last Friday at Reed High School in Sparks, while the girls finished seventh. Spring Creek was the boys team champion, while Elko won the girls title.

The leading performer for the Vaqueros was Kiriann Johnson, who qualified for state in two individual events and as part of a relay team.

Johnson repeated as region champion in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet, 6 inches, finished third in the triple jump and ran a leg of the 4x400 relay, which finished fourth.

Johnson will be joined in the pole vault competition by Evven Johnson, who finished third with her personal record vault of 9-3.

Naomi Wyant qualified with a second place finished in the triple jump, with a leap of 31-5, while Karley Hodgden is going to state in the girls 400 meters, after placing fourth with her personal record of 1:02.02.

Coach Todd Wright said Hodgden also had a great time in her leg of the 4x400 relay to get them into state, running along with Kiriann Johnson, Kensey Kreller and Myla Bott.

For the boys, Keeshawn Love was the regional champion in the 110 hurdles, with a winning time of 16.09.

Bryce Dunagan-Stephens is a double state qualifier, placing second in the high jump, clearing 5-10, nand placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.25. Both of those marks were his personal bests.

HayDen McGinnis earned a trip to state in the discus, placing second with a throw of 142-9, and Manny Galvan will joine Love in the 110 hurdles after placing fourth with a time of 17.52.

The boys 4x800 relay team of Mikey Fitzgerald, Angelo Mulei, Sheldon Jacobson, Kael Paz and Andrew Peterson placed third with a time of 8:40.37.
