A week after having four runners finish among the top 10, the Fernley High School girls cross country team had three runners in the top 11 last Friday as they won their home Roadhill Invitational last Friday, their second consecutive first place finish.
The Vaqueros were led by Myla Bott who placed seventh with a time of 24:39, and Trinity Garcia-Anders, who finished eighth in 24:46).
Behind them, Kori Scott placed 11th in 26:58; Laila Kinnick was 16th in 29:02 and Lilly Bacock came in 17th with a time of 29:15. The other two runners, Cora Maldonado and Sasha Smith, both set personal records. Maldonado was 22nd in 30:45 and Smith finished 26th in 32:29.
The boys team ran without two of its senior runners but still placed third.
The Vaqueros were led by freshman Kael Paz, who finished in third place with a time of 19:40. Connie Hunter claimed eighth place with a time of 20:52. Lamar Woods set a big personal record, taking 19th place with a time of 23:14; Robert Blackorby finished 24th in 24:06; Rylen Patrick came in 37th in 27:21 and Nico Pearl was 45th in 30:34.
The previous week, the Vaqueros competed in the Nevada Union Invitational, where the girls finished first and the boys took third in the small school varsity race.
It was Fernley’s first time racing this 3-mile course.
Garcia-Anders was Fernley’s top finisher, in second place with a time of 23:31; Bott finished fifth with a time of 24:10, Kinnick was right being in sixth place with a time of 24:24 and Scott took ninth in 25:06. Bacock ran in 28:10 to finish 25th; Maldonado was 30th in 29:38 and Smith came in 34th with a time of 30:33.
The boys team finished third, but only seven points out of first place.
Paz placed 5th out of 71 runners with a time of 18:44; Rylan Roth placed eighth in 19:21; Hunter came in 16th with a time of 20:46; Evan Richardson took 20th place in 21:32; Spencer Blackorby came in 29th with a time of 22:23 and Lamar Woods finished 30th in 22:29.
This Saturday, the Vaqueros travel to Truckee for what should be a pretty fast race on a golf course.
