Nevada Veterans Coalition statement on the passing of its president, Brett Palmer

Nevada Veterans Coalition statement on the passing of its president, Brett Palmer

On behalf of the family, the Nevada Veterans Coalition is profoundly sad to announce the passing of our leader, and true patriot, Brett G. Palmer.

Brett was a larger-than-life figure who epitomized the word 'service.' After serving his country as a United States Marine, he began what would end up being a 36 year career in Law Enforcement. Retiring from the Lyon County Sheriff's Department in 2008, Brett took over as President of the Nevada Veterans Coalition (NVC).

Never one to sit idly by when others' needs were unfulfilled, Brett's vision and work ethic inspired many others to action, to volunteer and to serve again. His leadership and guidance have provided comfort and closure to countless families and loved ones of Veterans over the years via the NVC Honor Guard.

In the coming weeks we will provide details of a yet to be determined memorial service. The Veterans community of Nevada has lost a great champion, and we know that many others feel the same loss we now share.

Brett is survived by his wife, five children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family has asked for the following statement to be shared: "We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share their feelings for our beloved Brett. We know that many of you will mourn with us and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief."
