City to host community meeting on strategic planning

City to host community meeting on strategic planning

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The City of Fernley is kicking off the process of developing a new Strategic Plan by hosting a community meeting via Zoom from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.

In addition, the City has posted an online community survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/D7W7TZC. Residents are asked to complete the confidential survey, offering ideas about what the most important characteristics of the could be  2040, and what needs to be done to achieve it.

The results of this survey, combined with information from interviews, small group meetings and a community meeting will be used to develop the Strategic Plan. The plan will be used by the City of Fernley to establish guidelines and goals for future growth.

The City’s current Strategic Plan expires at the end of the year, and its population is projected to double over the next 20 years. A new Strategic Plan would help guide the City’s decisions as it grows and transitions from primarily a residential community to one with a more balanced residential and commercial community.

The City has contracted with Ted Gaebler, former County Executive of Nevada County, Calif. and City Manager of Visalia, San Rafael, East Palo Alto and Rancho Cordova, Calif., to develop the Strategic Plan.

Information from the community meeting, survey and interviews with focus groups will be compiled into a draft plan that is scheduled to be submitted to the Council in October. Another community meeting to present the draft plan for feedback is scheduled Nov. 10, and the council will consider adopting the plan Dec. 2.

Registration for the Aug. 13 meeting is required at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87273782209?pwd=eVF2dXZIQTVZSWxuNEZnalovK0cxdz09#success
