Lyon County is one of seven counties that meet two of the three criteria set by Gov. Steve Sisolak in directing that bars that don’t serve food must close, effective 11:59 p.m. Friday.
Under the directive issued by Sisolak, counties are evaluated on three criteria, and those that meet two of the three are considered an “Elevated Disease Transmission County.
The criteria are:
•Average Number of Tests per Day: This is the average number of cases resulted during the previous week in a county, divided by the number of people living in the county. This number is then multiplied by 100,000 to control for varying populations in counties. Counties that average fewer than 150 tests per day will meet this elevated disease transmission risk criteria.
•Case Rate: This is the total number of cases diagnosed as positive and reported over a two-week period divided by the number of people living in the county. This number is then multiplied by 100,000 to control for varying populations in counties. Counties with a case rate higher than 100 will meet this elevated disease transmission risk criteria.
•Test Positivity: This is the total number of cases diagnosed as positive averaged over a 7-day period, with a 7-day lag, divided by the number of people living in the county. Counties that have a case rate higher than 25 and a test positivity rate higher than 7 percent will meet this elevated disease transmission risk criteria.
According to Nevada’s County COVID-19 Elevated Disease Tracker, Lyon County meets criteria 1, averaging 79.8 tests per day per 100,000 of population, and criteria 3, with a 13 percent positivity rate. On criteria 2, Lyon County has a case rate of 55.2 per 100,000 in the last 14 days, falling well below the criteria of 100 per 100,000.
In the Quad County region, Carson City, Douglas County and Storey County each meet one criteria. Carson City is conducting an average of 199.3 tests per day per 100,000, with a case rate of 95.5 per 100,000 and a 15 percent positivity rate. Douglas County is conducting 53.5 tests per day per 100,000, has a case rate of 40.2 per 100,000 and a 6 percent positivity rate. Storey County is conducting 16 tests per 100,000 per day, with a case rate and test positivity rate of zero.
