NDVS updates guidelines for flag placements at Veterans Cemetery

NDVS updates guidelines for flag placements at Veterans Cemetery

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

With this year’s Memorial Day ceremony canceled due to Governor Steve Sisolak’s prohibition of gathers larger than 10 people, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services has updated its guidelines for those who wish to place flags or flowers on graves at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

The flag placement day is this Saturday, May 23, but there will be no formal ceremony, and the Nevada Department of Veteran Services is asking members of the public wishing to place flags or flowers at the cemeteries to do so at their own discretion.

NDVS in collaboration with the sponsors of the event and state veteran organizations will not be holding a specific Flag Placement Day as the sponsors have determined it would be unsafe to do so. The Veteran Cemeteries in Boulder City and Fernley are and will continue to be open to the public. NDVS requires that social distancing be observed at the cemeteries and encourages the use of face masks.

NDVS will have a staff member available at each cemetery on the traditional day of the event to provide flags to place on a headstone while supplies last.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
