City asks residents to look out for each other

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

With more people staying home due to business closures amid the governor’s orders regarding the COVID-19 virus, the City of Fernley is asking residents to look out for fellow community members.

In a release Thursday afternoon, city manager Daphne Hooper said the City is asking residents to continue to stay home, stay safe, but also check in on your families, friends, and neighbors via phone, text, e-mail, and/or social media.

“During uncertain times such as these, there has been an increase in concern about safety, especially with regard to vacant buildings, homes, and businesses,” Hooper said. “Fernley residents have demonstrated a wonderful ability to come together and look out for one another during previous times of crisis, such as the flood of 2008.”

The City asks that anyone who sees suspicious activity report it immediately to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 463-6600. If you have concerns regarding the welfare of neighbors, buildings, etc. please contact the Sheriff’s Office or in case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

“The City of Fernley expresses our appreciation for the community and to our residents who are following the Governor’s directives, practicing social distancing, staying home in order to keep Nevadans healthy and safe,” Hooper said.

For additional information or questions, contact the City Manager’s Office at (775) 784-9858.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
