Three Fernley players qualified for next week’s 3A Girls Golf State Tournament in Elko.
For the season, the Vaqueros finished fourth in the Northern 3A as a team, with 28 cup points and a stroke average of 482.
The winner of each meet during the season scores 7 cup points, with each team behind them scoring in descending order. Elko won the league with 48 cup points, and a team average of 379. Lowry was second and Spring Creek third, to qualify for the state tournament as teams.
The top five players from nonqualifying teams qualify as at-large candidates for the state meet.
Olivia Victor was the first at-large qualifier with a season average of 112. Megan Thompson was one of three players who tied with a season average of 116.8, and Jenna Kollar was the fifth qualifier with an average of 124.
Lowry’s Tatyana Carlson was the individual league champion with an average of 88.3. Annika Criss of Elko was second with an 88.9 average and Chalee Mullin of Elko was third at 91.7
The 2016 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s Class 3A Nevada State High School Girls Golf Championship tournament, presented by the Station Casinos, is scheduled to be played Monday and Tuesday, October 17 and 18, over the 5,391-yard, par-72 Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.
