RENO, Nev. –Students from the University of Nevada Orvis School of Nursing, in partnership with Nevada Donor Network, hosted a unique event at the University of Nevada campus to promote organ, eye and tissue donation on September 19. The group of students worked with Nevada Donor Network for their community intervention project, which aimed to educate students and faculty about organ, eye and tissue donation, common myths and misconceptions surrounding donation, and the importance of registering.
The students hosted a donor registration drive – complete with dunk tank – outside the Joe Crowley Student Union and volunteered to be dunked every time someone registered. During the event, they registered or reaffirmed 176 people to be donor heroes. “The students demonstrated such creativity when they came up with this event concept,” said Monica Myles, Partner Relations Supervisor for Nevada Donor Network. “They were able to have insightful, important conversations about donation in a really fun and approachable way. We are so proud of them.”
