Fernley Community Foundation meeting Monday night to share progress

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Since the last meeting of the Fernley Community Foundation, Lyon County has announced plans and is moving forward on constructing a new senior center at the proposed site of a new community center in Fernley, as the first step toward the project, while the city also received a Community Development Block Grant for the project.

With school finally ending and the primary elections wrapping up, the foundation will be hosting a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall to share some of the progress the Fernley Community Foundation has been making in the past year.

Topics of discussion for this meeting will include details of the new Senior Center breaking ground soon, Community Development Block Grant funding recently awarded to the City, new marketing and fundraising campaigns from the Foundation, and a very special guest speaker.

All members of the community are welcome.

“We would love to pack the meeting area and show that our community of Fernley does care about bettering Fernley in any way we can,” said Foundation chairman Cody Wagner.

Because such a community center would be more expensive than the city or any of the other entities, could build on its own, the Fernley Community Foundation was formed to bring together the various entities that could be involved in a partnership to build a multi-use, shared facility. Some of the involved entities include or could include the City of Fernley, Lyon County, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Truckee Meadows, Lyon County School District and Western Nevada College.
WHAT: Fernley Community Foundation Meeting
WHEN: Tonight, Monday, June 18, 5:30-6:30 pm
WHERE: Fernley City Hall Council Chambers, 595 Silver Lace Blvd, Fernley, NV
WHY: Update and community input on project development and where we are headed regarding the proposed community center. And more importantly, to unite a positive group of Fernley citizens to unite behind the general concept of making progress towards a better community.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
