Laxalt wins Republican primary in landslide to face Sisolak for Governor in November

Adam Laxalt has won a landslide victory in the Republican primary for Nevada Governor, while Steve Sisolak easily won the Democratic primary, setting up a showdown in the November General election that has been forecast since January to succeed Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Laxalt earned more than 71 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, with second place finisher Dan Schwartz mustering only 9.09 percent.

Sisolak, meanwhile, received 50.03 percent in the Democratic primary, to 38.86 for Chris Giunchigliani.

“You deserve a governor who will stand up for you. A governor with some grit. A governor who has real experience. A governor who has your back, and never backs down,” Sisolak said in prepared remarks at a victory party, according to The Nevada Independent. “And if you give me the chance, that’s the governor I will be.”

For his part, Laxalt was already looking ahead to the matchup with Sisolak during his celebratory party in Reno.

“My opponent will be a career politician who has spent decades complaining about the problems, and little time getting to work on the solutions,” Laxalt said. “This is a choice between leadership and cronyism. Real solutions, or a radical agenda that would take our unique state the way of California. Higher taxes, crippling regulations, sanctuary cities. You name it, they support it. They would change Nevada forever.”

Laxalt recently reported that he has raised more than $6.4 million during this campaign cycle, more than any gubernatorial candidate in state history at this point in a race. Nearly half of Laxalt’s contributions were less than $100 from grassroots supporters, and he has received contributions from all 17 of Nevada’s counties. His campaign is attracting tremendous volunteer support as well: nearly 4,000 Nevadans have already signed up to volunteer for the campaign.

“Our work is only just beginning. Together we can build on the foundations of the Nevadans who came before us and choose the path of prosperity and unlimited possibilities.  Not just for a few, but for every Nevadan,” said Laxalt.
