The Fernley Reporter
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new initiative to investigate denied attempts to purchase a firearm by prohibited persons.
In April of this year the Sheriff’s Office sent a letter to all Lyon County federal firearm license dealers with a simple request: Whenever a state background check denies any firearm transaction, provide the LCSO with any documentation on the person’s identifiers.
Detectives are currently looking into seven denied transactions to determine the reason for denial. The Sheriff’s Office says if the denial appears to involve a felony crime, the assigned detective will conduct a follow up investigation and take appropriate actions, such as requesting an arrest warrant or seeking a search warrant for more illegally possessed firearms.

Comment text: Maybe there is more to this story than what is reported, but it seems to me that the businesses that are causing this problem ought to be paying for this, or at least a major portion of it. Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
