Local and state reactions to deadly Las Vegas shooting

More than 50 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in a mass shooting during the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas Sunday night. The following is a sample of responses by local and state officials to the shooting.

Scott Huntley, North Lyon County Fire District Chief: Our hearts go to the victims and responders in Las Vegas. Tell your loved ones how important they are every day. We are always striving to prepare and better serve at North Lyon. We must find a way to eliminate these type of horrific incidents. Please help and give blood if you can today.

Lyon County Manager Jeff Page: Before the media begins to disect the horrific shooting in Las Vegas and we all begin our bantering on gun control and mental health, let's remember the victims, first responders and citizens of Las Vegas.

Let's pray for the grieving families. Hold up the men and women that ran in to protect those trying to get out, the medical teams dealing with hundreds of victims, the local officials that have to make the hard decisions that will affect Las Vegas in the future.

This was a horrific event in our great State. I pray the media won't make it worse

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of this attack. Throughout the early morning hours, I have been on scene, in close contact with local, State and federal authorities. Sheriff Lombardo, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, other local law enforcement and all of our first responders have performed heroically, despite facing such a horrific and tragic act of violence. We all remain deeply grateful for their service.

It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
