LCSO and the Lyon County School District are also working together and students who need to be dropped of in the Royal Oaks Subdivision will be held on the school bus until the shelter in place has been removed.

According to assistant principal Cory Sanford, the high school was placed on a brief precautionary lockdown, but he said school operations continued as normal.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.

Update from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 12:40 this afternoon, LCSO received several reports of a man in the street shooting a firearm and yelling at other people. When deputies to make contact with the man, he returned to his home and refused to answer deputies. The suspect is currently located inside his residence and trained hostage negotiators are attempting to make contact with him. SWAT is in place if they are needed. At this time, we have issued a shelter in place in the Southwest Meadows subdivision located south of Fernley High School. (I previously posted Royal Oaks subdivision, which is not the correct name, but a street in the subdivision.) We have spoke to all of the schools and to the bus yard and all children that ride the bus in the area are being held at the school and then will be taken to their stops after the shelter in place order has been lifted. I will post more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience!
