School Board looking to fill vacant seat
Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter
The Lyon County School District is looking for someone from Fernley to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees.
The School Board voted Jan. 25 to begin the process to appoint a replacement for the vacant District 7 seat. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Trustee Kimber Crabtree, which was effective following the Board’s Oct. 26 meeting. At the time, because redistricting was going on, the Board voted to wait until the process was completed before moving forward to replace Crabtree. Crabtree’s seat represented Smith and Mason Valleys, but population changes created the need to change district boundaries, and that District now represents the southeastern portion of Fernley.
To apply, individuals must submit a current resume and letter of intent, which is no longer than 2 pages and which addresses the following questions:
- Why are you interested in serving on the LCSD Board of Trustees?
- What experience, interests, training, or other skills do you feel you would bring to the LCSD Board of Trustees?
- What is the role of a LCSD Trustee?
Applicants must be eligible to vote and must live within the boundaries of the new District 7. A map of the districts is available on the school district’s website at www.lyoncsd.org, or call Margaret Heim, the administrative assistant to the Board, at (775) 463-6800, ext. 10034.
Applications will be accepted until 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16. The Trustees have scheduled interviews of applicants at their Feb. 22 meeting, at 6:30 p.m. at the Silver Stage Elementary Professional Learning Center.
