NHP looking for witnesses on serious injury crash
The Fernley Reporter
The Nevada Highway Patrol is asking any witnesses of a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 80 Aug. 3 to come forward.
On August 3, 2017 at approximately 5:30 a.m., NHP Troopers were dispatched to the area of westbound I-80, west of Patrick, for a rollover crash. A passing motorist witnessed this crash and pulled over to assist. The witness exited his pickup truck and started to walk back towards the crash. A semi-truck and trailer was traveling westbound on I-80 approaching the crash scene. The semi-truck swerved for debris in the roadway (possibly the cause of the original crash). The semi was traveling directly towards the pedestrian when the semi-truck swerved at the last moment and struck the rear of the pickup. The pedestrian was caught between the semi-truck and his pickup. The driver of the semi-truck fled the scene.
As of now, the only description of the semi-truck is a “white door on the back of the trailer.”
Nevada Highway Patrol is looking for any possible witnesses, anyone having any information or anyone that was in the area of the crash at that time. Please contact Trooper Chris Kelly at (775) 687-9600 or ckelly@dps.state.nv.us regarding NHP case #170800218
The witness and good Samaritan is still hospitalized in the ICU and has undergone several surgeries. He has serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
