Overnight lane closures will take place on Interstate 80 near Sparks Boulevard this coming week as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs roadway sensors to gather data on road usage.
Single lane closures will take place on both directions of I-80 between McCarran and Sparks boulevards Sunday, July 30 through Friday, August 4. One lane will be closed on westbound I-80 between 6:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., while a single lane closure will take place eastbound from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Minor travel delays should be anticipated. Drivers are reminded to travel safely and follow reduced speed limits through the work zone. Similar lane closures will take place this fall for a second phase of construction.
The approximately $600,000 project by Titan Electric will embed weigh-in-motion sensors into the interstate to automatically gather anonymous data on vehicle types and weights. NDOT utilizes the data to construct appropriate, long-lasting pavements for the average type and weight of vehicles on the road.
State road project information is available at nevadadot.com or by dialing (775) 888-7000.
