Tim Bickerton, a candidate for the Fernley City Council Ward 3 seat, announced last week that he is ending his campaign.
Bickerton said he was dropping out of the race partly because of what he called a “smear campaign” against him and partly because of negative responses to community projects he’s undertaken, such as a food bank he hosted in the spring, which he said people accused him of doing only in an attempt to get elected. He said he intends to continue to serve the community as a private citizen.
“I just don’t want to be in a position that I have to apologize for the things the council is not going to be able to do in the next four years,” he said.
Bickerton’s name will remain on the ballot for the November election. Under Nevada statute, in order to withdraw from a race, a candidate must do so in writing to the city or county clerk within two days of the end of the filing period.
