By winning last week’s 3-game series with South Tahoe, the Fernley High School baseball team climbed back above .500 in Northern 3A league play, heading into the rubber match of their season series with Fallon Tuesday afternoon.
The Vaqueros won the first and third games of last week’s series against the Vikings, and are 9-8 in league play, with 7 games remaining.
The Vaqueros play in Fallon Tuesday at 3 p.m., having beaten the Greenwave 1-0 on March 28 and lost to them 11-1 on April 11.
That April 11 loss was the last in a 7-game losing streak, but the Vaqueros have since won 5 of 6.
They will be on the road for the final seven league games. After Tuesday at Fallon, the Vaqueros go to Elko for a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday. Next week, they play two at Lowry May 5 and a single game April 6.
The Vaqueros started last week’s series with a 5-2 win over South Tahoe Thursday afternoon. Friday they split a doubleheader, losing the first game 11-1, but rebounding to capture the series with an 8-2 win in the finale.
That followed a sweep of Sparks, 12-1 on April 14 and 4-1 and 11-2 on April 15.
