Students can be picked up and dropped off near the main entrance (look for the flagpoles) on Jasmine Lane. Students can also be dropped off in the bus loading area, but only when no buses are there. Please do not enter the bus round-about when buses are present. Also, please help us keep traffic moving by avoiding parking in the red zones.

Communications & Events:

SMS events and programs are on our website www.sms.lyoncsd.org. Like us on Facebook @SilverlandMS and follow us on Twitter @SMSvaqueros.  Updating your contact information in your Infinite Campus Portal will ensure that you are kept up to date with information. SMS has many extra-curricular activities including drama productions, student leadership, band and choir concerts, dances, intramural and inter-scholastic sports.

Student Expenses:

Breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $2.80 for 7th & 8th graders. Applications for reduced fees are available in the office. Students who have PE as part of their schedule will need to purchase P.E uniforms the cost is $20.00 (this is a one-time purchase). Students also need a combination type lock for their PE locker.

Insurance:

It is important for students to be covered by insurance as the School District does not carry insurance on students. Insurance application forms are available in the office for low cost student insurance. All students who participate in school sponsored sports MUST show proof of insurance.

Immunizations:

By law, all students (except those with a religious exemption) must be current on required immunizations. Students entering the 7th grade and 8th grade students that are new to the district must have a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster and MCV4 (meningitis) prior to enrollment. Please contact your child’s healthcare provider if you are not sure their immunizations are current. The school nurse will be verifying records the first week of school. Students who are not current will not be allowed to attend until they get the required immunizations.

Grades & Report Cards:

Report cards will be mailed home at the end of each semester and progress reports will be issued every three weeks. An email will be sent to parents with a link to access Infinite Campus. This internet based service gives you continuous access to your child’s grades and other school information. In addition, you can call and schedule a conference with your child’s teachers at any time.

Attendance:

School attendance is critical to a student’s academic success. Upon return from an absence a student can present a signed note from their parent/guardian explaining the absence to the office. Parent/guardians may also call the office at 575-1575 to report a student absence. SMS enforces a closed campus policy. No student is permitted to leave at any time during the school day (including lunch) except with parent and office permission. Once a student is on campus in the morning they are expected to stay on campus until the end of the school day or signed out by a parent/guardian.

Fall Sports:

SMS fall sports will begin the first week of school. Cross Country is available for both boys and girls, and Girls Basketball. Information about cross country practices will be in the daily bulletin when school starts.
