8 Fernley runners medal at North Tahoe meet

Led by a second place finish by Cyrus Crain in the freshman boys race, seven Fernley High School runners, plus one from Fernley Intermediate School, won medals at last Friday’s North Tahoe Kiwanis Invitational.
Crain ran the 2.8-mile freshman race in 20:52.46, finishing second among 60 runners.
Jay King won a medal for finishing 16th among 76 runners in the 2.8 mile sophomore boys race with a time of 21:30.12.
In the 3.3-mile varsity boys race, Jonathan Roach finished 16th out of 183 runners with a time of 22:54.11.
For the girls, Grace De Leon finished 10th in the 3.3 mile girls race, which had 104 runners, with her time of 26:34.78.
In the 2.8-mile frosh/soph girls race, Piper Crook was seventh with a time of 24:24.30, Tayler Zolyniak finished eighth with a time of 24:24.93 and Baylee Ringer was 16th in 26.19.71, with 112 runners competing.
The meet also included a middle school race, and Fernley Intermediate School sixth grader Jack Lutkenhouse finished sixth in the 1.94-mile 6th/7th grade boys race with a time of 13:08.49
“The kids ran very well on a really difficult course,” coach Todd Wright said. “It was a great day because we brought some of our Fernley Intermediate and Silverland runners with us, so they participated in the 6th-7th and 8th grade races.”
