V&T Railroad celebrating 150th anniversary with Great Western Steam Up

A major part of Nevada’s history is being celebrated this weekend. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its completion with the Great Western Steam Up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

The celebrations takes place Friday thought Monday, with train rides, food, live entertainment, lost art demonstrations and more.

More than 10 operating steam locomotives representing six historic Nevada railroads will be on display, as well as the famous Reno Locomotive No. 11.

Ed Dickens, Senior Manager of Heritage Operations for Union Pacific Railroad, will be appearing. On Saturday, July 2, Dickens will speak at 3 p.m. and give an update on the Union Pacific Steam Program, including the upcoming plans for Big Boy 4014.  On Sunday, July , he will participate in an interactive chat and be available to answer audi0ence questions. Both days his appearance will be in the main tent located adjacent to the turntable
