The person who was killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 80 just east of Fernley Sunday morning has been identified as Leo Alexander Camarena Nunez, 22. The Nevada State Police did not list his hometown.
According to the State Police, at approximately 6:12 am, troopers responded to a crash at the location of eastbound I-80 east of mile marker 53 in Lyon County. Upon arrival, it was determined that a white Ford F-150 pickup was traveling eastbound on I-80 near mile marker 53. The Ford pickup, for unknown reasons, failed to maintain its travel lane, entering the center dirt median. The driver steered to the right causing the Ford to rotate clockwise. The vehicle rotated back across the eastbound travel lanes and into the right side dirt shoulder, causing the vehicle to overturn. Nunez was ejected from the vehicle and died of his injuries on-scene. The investigation revealed that Nunez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
