The Nevada Veteran’s Coalition will host its annual Memorial Day Service at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on Monday. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and lasts one hour.
Memorial Day began on May 30, 1868. The day was commemorated at Arlington National Cemetery as it was originally known as Decoration Day. In 1971, Congress declared that this day of recognition will forever be known as Memorial Day, an American National Holiday, and to be observed on the last Monday in May.
The Nevada Veterans Coalition invites you to join them to remember those veterans who gave, if not a portion or all of their lives, in the defense of our country.
Directions: The Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery is located East on I-80 at Exit 48 in Fernley. If coming from Reno, turn left after exiting the freeway and go under I-80 past the Denny’s/gas station. Turn left on Mission. Turn right on Veterans Way to the Cemetery.
