Vaqueros claim league title with win over Truckee

Zach Burns threw a 6-yard touchdown to A.J. Kuha with 6.5 seconds to lift Fernley to a 28-21 win over Truckee Friday night.

The win clinched the regular season Northern 3A championship and the No. 1 seed for the Northern 3A playoffs for the Vaqueros.

Fernley jumped out to a 20-0 lead early in the second quarter, only to see Truckee rally to take a 21-20 lead with 51.5 seconds left in the game.

But Fernley drove 68 yards in seven plays for the winning score.
