CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Truckee Fire started on July 3, at approximately 6:30 a.m., and is located 10 miles north of Fernley, NV, in Washoe County. The fire is currently 70,546 acres and 35 percent contained burning in grass and brush. Total personnel on the fire is 172. Fire staff will continue building line north and east of the fire. Air operations will be used to support ground activities.
The Earthstone Fire started on July 3, at approximately 1:30 p.m., and is located on the east side of Sparks, NV in Washoe County. The fire is currently 26,785 acres and 30% contained burning in grass and brush. Total personnel on the fire is 293. Structure protection is in place at the Olinghouse mining area.
The Winnemucca Ranch Fire started on July 4, at approximately 6:25 p.m., and is located 15 miles north of Reno, NV in Washoe County. The fire is currently 3000 acres and 35% contained burning is grass and brush. Total personnel on the fire is 177. Voluntary evacuations of residences in the Amy and Ironwood areas are underway along with evacuations of numerous livestock and animals. Crews will continue structure protection and direct line construction efforts.
A Type 2 fire team, Great Basin Team 6, assumed command of the three fires on July 6 at 7 a.m.
